I’M HEALED - ALSO KNOWN AS ‘MY SCAR IS THE TREASURE’ - A serene ‘heavenly’ table about Enlightenment.
The table is made of Calacatta Gold marble with a scar and stitches made from 24 carat solid gold and 18 carat gold on a table base of stainless steel and light blue coloured cast epoxy. Height 74 cm x width 235 cm x depth 130 cm and weight ca. 250 kg. Single piece.
I’M HEALED - ALSO KNOWN AS ‘MY SCAR IS THE TREASURE’ is an aesthetic, almost philosophical, and conceptual piece expressing the human capability of transforming one’s inner pain and life’s lows, into one’s purpose. The result of genuine introspection.
The table may be serene in terms of colour, but is capriciously cut and has a scar with 8 whimsically pointy stitches made of solid gold. The inside of the scar contains of 24 carat gold - which is actuality too soft and fragile to be used for the stitches. The eight stitches are therefore made from 18 carat jewellery gold.
The stitches are intentionally irregularly affixed as an extra imperfect detail. The golden scar and its stitches are deliberately tangible in relief, while significant scars, remain tactile in one’s skin.
The perfectly imperfect scar in this piece symbolises transformation over time. The valuable psychological process that painfullest experiences are often most destructive, but become greatest purposeful.
The marble used for this work is, is not by coincidence, called Calacatta Gold marble - traces of gold and other precious metals can be found in this type of marble.
The work I’M HEALED - ALSO KNOWN AS ‘MY SCAR IS THE TREASURE’ contains traces of pyrite and has an unusual and unique natural hue. In addition to the grey and brown veins, it also bears an orange and a very bright mint-green shade, a combination which is rarely seen.
The table base was made of cast epoxy with a stainless steel framework inside. The colour blue of the base is so light and delicate making it nearly white, and subtly illuminating, to give this piece a fatherly lightness.
The shape and the colours of this calming work evoke associations of a strange kind of heaven with its sharp cut cloud top and its single holy-light-blue-sky base. The execution seems to express the saying; If you want to fly, give up everything that weighs you down.
